After its 2002 hit song "California" appeared on the "Orange County" soundtrack and, more recently, became the theme song for the new television show "The O.C.," Phantom Planet's self-titled record shows listeners that, although their sound has changed a little, they are headed for stardom. The album has moved away from the pop happy sound of their second album "Guest" to more of an edgy tone. Dave Fridmann was the producer for Phantom Planet's third studio album. Fridmann has also produced for The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Mogwai and Longwave. Phantom Planet wanted to escape the craziness of Los Angeles and picked Fredonia, NY, an Amish town in the middle of nowhere, to record its album. The band completed the album in only six weeks after an exhausting 18-month tour. The first single off the record, "Big Brat," mixes a fast-paced rhythm with lead singer Alexander Greenwald's sing-speak vocals to make a catchy up-beat song. Some might compare Phantom Planet to such bands as The Strokes and Rooney. Phantom Planet's sound, however, is definitely much more original. The first few songs like "The Happy Ending" and "Badd Business," opens the disc with an upbeat start, but the problem toward the end of the album, some of the songs blend into each other. Jeff Conrad starts to sound like a first-timer banging away on the drums. This album would be best used as background music when cruising around town on a sunny day with friends.

I had a lot to say earlier. Now I'm blank. Well, classes went alright today. Business Law, he pretty much just called out the roll. He asked all 100-something where we were from. "Ruston." "Oh....I'm sorry." HAHAHAHAHAHA He said that everytime any of us were from here.

English was BLAH. A tutor came to have us sign up. We are required to go to them 30 mins a week. Why do I need a fucking tutor? I'm not stupid. I can write a fucking essay without someone that is 2 to 3 years older than myself telling me what I've done wrong. I wasn't in HONORS english all four years of high school or anything. I didn't get asked by Duke University to take the ACT in the 7th grade because I'm stupid. I didn't get bugged by that University for six years to come attend their school cause I'm not smart. I was also the last person in my class that got to sign up. Lucky me eh? The two times I really wanted (T&R @ 10) were both taken by the time I got the sign up sheet. So, now I have to do it after work on Wednesdays. Meh.

Work was fun today. Well, as fun as working in an office can get. I'm really enjoying being Mrs. Karen's only student worker. I wish it was always this way. And I'm actually keeping up with everything. Both Sarah and my work. Raise coming? I hope so. :)

I went and picked up some movies. I got: Bend It Like Beckham, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Just Married. I still need to find out why my dvd player won't play on my tv.

I updated my anti-virus program last week and now my computer just decides to go to a blue screen that I can't get out of unless I turn my 'puter off. Ryan doesn't even know what's wrong. ARG! He is suppose to know this crap. Anyways, I don't really have anything else going on in my life. I'm tired. I'm cranky. I'm hungry. I'm bored. I'm lonely. I don't want to be here right now. Later.

Back to the Grind

Last night was odd to say the least. Ended on a good note though. Although my head is still kinda spinning. Anyways, I finally dragged myself into bed at 1:30. Yea, less than 5 hrs before I had to be up again. 2:00 came & went. 2:30 came & went. 3:00 came & went. I eventually ended up passing out between 3:30 & 4:00. So yea. I got less than 3 hrs of sleep. My alarm went off promptly at 6:20 when I forced myself out of bed.

8 o'clock class~Business Law....I think it will be alright. We have 3 tests each counting 25% each of our total grades. The rest of the points comes from reading and how well you do on your quizzes. We got out at 8:20 cause he had a murder trial to attend to today at 8:30. The teachers are always lawyers.

9:30 class~English....Sad but this might end up being my favorite class this quarter. We'll have to see. The teacher seems really cool and laid back. We did the whole get to know your neighbor thing in class. I ended up with a girl that was from Ruston too. So that was kinda nice. We had to think of one interesting fact about ourselves and two lies. Did ya'll know that I was an exchange student in France for a year and that I moved here when I was 10? I swear out of the 14 or so guys, all but 3 of them said they loved hunting. We only have to write five papers in there counting the final. There is also a kinda cute guy in there (which is like a miracle that I actually find someone here attractive). Anyways, I think I might actually enjoy this class after all.

Work went by slow today. I swear I looked at the clock every 5 mins. I finally got a)bored out of my mind b)everything that could be done. done. So I headed out a little early today. Mrs. Karen still doesn't know about Sarah's school situation. They don't even know how sick she is.

Classes start tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it one bit. Having to get up @ 6:20 AM Monday-Friday is going to be enough to put me in a bad mood. I hate being in a bad mood.

Last night, I went to bed at 1:15ish. Trying to get prepared for going to bed earlier? Yea. I'm trying. I was still awake at 2. I made myself get out of bed at 8. Today was fee payment. Usually on days of fee payment the whole office works over in the Student Center. I'm the only lucky student worker(so far), that doesn't have to work from 7:30AM-6:00PM. Mainly cause what I do and my bosses do has nothing to do with Fee Payment. So I finally dragged myself into work at 10.

The first thing Mrs. Karen said to me when I got there was..."Guess what Sarah has?" "Ummmmm the flu?" "MONO!" I wanted to laugh my ass off but I resisted. So she is probably out until at least after Christmas, I guess. Nobody knows whether she is going to have to take this quarter off or not. If she does, she can't work until the very end of February. Only problem is, nobody knows how to do Tech Express since she never taught me when I asked last Fall. Oh well. Not my problem (at least right now). All I know is I better get a damn raise if I have to do her part of the job too. *nods*

So, today is the day to be thankful in our country, eh? But really how many of us celebrate Thanksgiving anymore? Today is just like any other day that my family is home. It's like a Saturday. Everyone in their designated spots. I'm here. My brother is in his room. Dad's in the recliner. Mom was in the kitchen all day. The only difference is we have a HUGE meal and we eat together as a family. My question is why do we need a day to be thankful for shit? I'm thankful every damn day for what I do have. I might dwell a lot more on what I don't have, but I'm always thankful. Pretty much I only look forward to Thanksgiving because then it's the Christmas season.

It took my brother and I all afternoon to get our tree up. He wanted to actually put up the tree himself this year since next year he will live out-of-town (probably out-of-state) by this time next year. We ended up putting the lights on backwards or something and we got down to the end of the tree and went to plug it in when we realized we couldn't. So, we had to do from the second string on over again. It seriously takes us hours to do our tree completely. 1) we are lazy 2)we are lazy 3)we have that many ornaments. I'll try to remember to take pics after we get presents under it.

Ryan and I left Ruston about 12:30 yesterday. I was driving, of course. If I haven't said it by now, I hate interstate driving. Don't know why but I do. I've gotten over my fear a little though. About 20 mins before we got to Canton (the town we always switch driving in), we got into heavy traffic. Anyways, this 18-wheeler decided to pass me. He did but then he slowed down again and we were going about the same speed I guess and I was right in the middle of the truck(did that make sense to anyone?). I think the trucker got pissed about that and decided he was getting back over no matter what. The next thing I know I'm halfway off the road and blowing my horn. Did he get back over in his lane when I blew? Hell NO! I somehow ended up behind him. I guess I slowed down. I don't know. It all happened really fast. Ryan said that that's never even happened to him, when there was nowhere to go. I couldn't speed up and get infront of him or slow down before he tried to run me over. Anyways, in Canton, we switched and Ryan drove the hour into Dallas.

When we finally got to Deep Ellum, we wanted to go to the Depository. For those that don't know, yesterday was the 40th anniversary of JFK's assination in Dallas. The Depository is the building that Oswald shot out of. So we walked down Commerce St. the street that he was shot on. People were all over the place. It was rather erie cause the sun was setting and big masses of people freak me out. There was even some freak that had a sign that said 'Kennedy killed Oswald'. Whatever. It was kinda lame down on the street so we decided to go to the 6th floor and look around. It's mainly just a museum of his life. It was really a cool place. Then again, I've always been intrigued with him and his death. They had the corner window glassed in though. And the original window, was taken out by the owner of the Depository shortly after his death. He wanted to "keep it safe" but his family returned it in 1994. Fun Fun Fun!

After that, we drove to Good Records. Its this indie record store. Really hip in Deep Ellum. Yes, I just said hip. Get over it. Anyways, Ryan ended up buying, Sigur Ros vinyl for David and The Strokes' new vinyl for another friend. I ended up finding 'The Guest' on vinyl so I bought it to attempt to get it signed.

By the time we left Good, it was 6:15. Doors weren't until 8. We parked right outside Trees and walked across the street to the amazing Italian Restaurant 'Portabello Grille aka the old Momo's'. Were seated. Ordered our food. Ryan looks at me and goes "People are already lining up at 6:30?" And now it wasn't just a few people it was probably a good 20 to 30 then. I had the Chicken Fetticinni Alfredo that I had last time I was in Deep Ellum. Absolutely the best meal EVER in my life. By the time we got done eating it was 7:15. Went and lined up. I figure we were probably 60-75 back in line. Waited and waited and waited and yes, waited some more. Ryan leans over to me while we were doing all this waiting and goes "Is that the girl that was in front of us at Rooney last week?" "Ummmm I think so. Is she wearing the same EXACT thing she was last week too?" Anyone remember the story about the girl that asked me about Mastedonia and didn't seem to know what it was? Yea. That girl. Finally at exactly 8(what a shocker), they opened the doors. By the time we got inside, we would have been 4th or 5th row back. Midget Amy Lou would not have been able to see crap. So we hightailed it to the balcony, which is actually probably the best view since a)you don't have to look directly up over the almost five foot stage and b)you can see everyone. I would not regret this decision one bit. I went downstairs during the hour of waiting to see what all merchandise they had. No DVD. Which I was really bummed about. No Zombie shirt. Meh. Everyone seemed to be buying the bubble-lettered shirt. I got the 'Night Sex' shirt instead. I've been meaning to buy that for a year now. And they actually had a small.

A little after 9, Ben Lee came on. From everything I had heard about Ben himself before the tour started was that he was 100% into himself. My critics were WRONG. He was absolutely awesome and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I wish I would have know his music beforehand cause jeez that kinda sent me for a loop. I really didn't expect to enjoy him at all. If anyone knows where I can find a set list or what album most of his songs he has been playing is off of, please let me know. Mkay? Mkay.

After a 20 or 25 min break, Phantom Planet came on. Eeeeeeeeeeee! I'm still so giddy from it. Excuse me if I come off a little girlish during this. They opened with Big Brat, which in my opinion, is the best song for them to open with. The guitars in the beginning just klsdjklskdjfk. Ya'll know what I mean. Let's see if I can remember all the songs they played. Hmmmm...

What to say about their performance....HOLY SHIT that fucking rocked so hard! It's really refreshing to see a band that can rock out and look natural at doing it and have fun at the same time. Alex crowdsurfed twice during 1st Things 1st (i think that was the song). The first time he made it 1/3 the way back to the back. But I saw the "Staph" (no not staff but like the infection) came running. The second time, he went to the same exact spot to crowdsurf again. This time the bouncer pushed him back onto the stage before he could really even go anywhere. pfffft. I hate Trees Staff. Then during Lonely Day; he said, "I wanna make it back to the back of the room. Can ya'll help me do that?" It was cool to watch. During All Over Again, he looks up at the balcony exactly at the spot I was standing and goes, "Are you people strong down there?" *points to the floor* "I'm gonna walk over ya'll to the balcony." I move out of the way though cause I was worry I wouldn't be able to pull him over. He ended up walking all the way around to the back of the balcony (the bar part) and flipped upside down and sang the rest of All Over Again. It was kinda sad that he didn't have any rafters to hang on but that worked too. hehe. Only bad part was the girl that was standing next to me kept yelling "BRING BACK JASON!" Meh.

After they left the stage, Ryan and I hurried to the car to get the vinyl. Then we went and waited by the bus with 182315784 fans it seemed. Jeff finally emerged from the bus 20 mins later but just to get two old people (i'm guessing some relatives) on the bus, said he would be back in a few mins, and then he went back in. After maybe 10 mins the old people came out but no Jeff. Then a group of 12 or so people came up with some official looking Asian dude and waited to get on the bus. The girls were all dressed like whores. But whatev. They were on there for a good 20 mins and when it was time to leave, they wouldn't leave. ugh.

Finally after we had been waiting for an hour. The guys all emerged from the bus. Sam was the first out and right in front of me. But somehow, girls kept getting in my way. Whenever I did get to him. Ryan handed him the vinyl. "I use to have one of these." I don't remember anything else that was said. Took a quick pic with him. And moved on to Darren and Jacques. No real conversation with them. Quick pics. And on to Alex. Ryan handed him the vinyl. He looked at it and thought it was a flat, started to say something then goes...

Alex: "Oh this is a vinyl."
Me:"Ummmm yea."
Alex: "You know there are some of these that were made in Germany."
Ryan: "That one was."
Alex: "It was?" *Ryan points to where it says it* "There were only like 500 of these made. How did you get this?"
Me: "Good Records. Down the street just a bit. It's an independent store."
Alex: "Wow. Really. I've NEVER seen this in a store."
Me: "Wow."
Ryan: "This had to of been one of the best shows I've ever been to."
Alex: *surprised look* "Really?"
Ryan: "Yea."
Alex: "I hope ya'll come to our next show here."

Then we thanked him and went on our merry way.

Lastly was Jeff. I went to hand him the vinyl. He was "You want me to sign it?" "Yea. Of course." So he signed it. Got a quick pic and thanked him. And left since it was already 12:30. We got home a little after 5 AM this morning.

Oh yea, ALABAMA, they did pass out a cd with different artists on it: Travis, The Raveonettes, David Bowie, Howie Day, and Big Brat is on it. I told Ryan if he saw anyone handing cds out to grab one for you since I would grab one for myself so if you would like it, let me know and i'll get your address from you. :)

If you are gonna judge....Please stop reading now.

I knew it was too good to last. I'm never really truly happy. There's always a demon inside me saying that "no one will ever truly love and care about you" and "you will never be happy". I have my moments when I'm happy but they never last long. On average, I'm probably happy for two days each week. The others, I hate the world and feel invisible.

About three or so weeks ago, I had a happy day. I don't know what triggered it or anything. I just woke up overly happy that day. Next day...happy. Next day...happy and so on. It lasted three whole weeks. I went three freaking weeks without crying or even getting teary-eyed. I felt like I was untouchable or something. Absolutely nothing upset me or made me sad in the least. Which is really amazing when I think about it cause something is always upsetting to me.

This morning, I woke up and had to drag myself out of bed, even though it was 9 AM. I wasn't happy. What happened between when I went to bed at 1:30 and got up at 9 to make me so unhappy? I don't know. I'm absolutely clueless to what makes me happy. I'm not even excited really for Saturday anymore. Which I find kind of disturbing since I've been looking forward to this since August 31st (the day i found about it). And have been so excited for even last Saturday, when I was about to see one of my favorite bands, I was more ecstatic for this weekend. I made it through work without crying. I came home and broke down for 45 minutes. As I write this, I'm getting teary-eyed.

I don't matter to anyone anymore. If I was to just walk away from my computer, I wonder how many of you people would actually try to find out what happened to me. What about if I had enough courage and was independent enough to just leave this town...Who would worry? NO ONE I thought I had comes to terms with knowing I was going to be alone and single for the rest of my life. I thought I was okay not having someone by my side through thick and thin. I don't have that person. I haven't had that person in a long time.

I also thought, I was okay with the way I look. I know I'm not pretty but somedays I feel alright about myself. Even when someone does tell me I look nice or I'm pretty, I just deny it. When someone tells me that they do truly like me (for a friend or more), I don't believe. I don't feel like I'm worthy of being a friend or more to anyone in this world. Every guy I've met in the past say two to three years, that I have liked have been way out of my league and would never like me. And the guys that DO enjoy my presence, I never think of as more than friends.

Out of all the people that I know read this, I can say that only one person truly knows the real me. That person knows who they are too. They are the only person that has taken the time to look past all my flaws and see the true Amy Lou. This person is the only one that always goes pass the whole "hi" "hi" "how are you?" "good. you?" part of getting to know me. There are some people that I wish I could know better and consider these people as my friends. But if you don't ask questions about me and try to get to know me, don't expect me to share information with you. I'm not that type of person.
